WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS NO ONE TO CALL?
Young adults aging out of foster care face disproportionately high risks of homelessness, unemployment, educational failure, and justice-system involvement. Research shows that within a few years of leaving care, up to 25–36% experience homelessness during the transition to adulthood, while, nearly half face periods of unemployment, less than 3% earn a college degree, and about 1 in 4 become involved in the justice system. Without family support, mentorship, or a stable network, many struggle to successfully transition into independent adulthood.

Next Steps Texas exists to stand in the gap for young adults aging out of foster care and opportunity youth facing housing instability. We are building more than temporary shelter, we are creating a safe place to land, heal, grow, and rebuild. Through transitional housing, mentorship, life-skills training, employment support, and a caring community, we help young adults move from survival to stability and toward independent lives filled with purpose. Together, we can provide the support system so many have never had: a place to belong and hope for what comes next.
